In 1960, an unknown singer named Gary Anderson cut a record. When “New Orleans” was released, he wasn’t unknown anymore. Thanks to a clever publicity stunt by his agent, he wasn’t Gary Anderson, either. Gary U.S. Bonds had us dancing through the 60’s with songs like “School Is Out”, the obvious follow-up, “School Is In”, and every school kid’s dream, “Seven Day Weekend”. But it was his signature song, “Quarter To Three”, that was named one of Billboard’s Top 500 songs of all time. Gary has influenced many artists, and two of them, Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven Van Zandt, teamed up with him for two albums in the early 80’s that included his comeback hit, “This Little Girl”. At 85, Gary still performs around the country and plays celebrity PGA Tour events. He’s also written a book, “By U.S. Bonds – That’s My Story”.
