Dick Purtan is a legend in Detroit radio, entertaining a legion of loyal listeners with him on his website, Salvation Army and cancer research. Catch up of dollars for charities including the his radio career, raising millions, Dick is as well known for his philanthropy as he is for Fame in Chicago, for 45 years. Even in the era of personality radio, Dick stood out with his humorous take on the events and newsmakers of the day, delivered with the help of his cast of characters, Purtan’s People. After  stints in Syracuse, Baltimore and Cincinnati, where he raised $25,000 to bring the Beatles to Ohio (top ticket price – $7.50). Dick came to Detroit in 1965…and never left. He was named Billboard’s “Major Market Air personality of the Year” twice and was inducted into the National Radio Hall of fame.
